Dual-Band Solution
Allgon, Tele2 and Motorola support a cost-effective antenna solution for dual-band networks. The system reduces the cost for antenna installations, feeders and site acquisitions, and supports Tele2/Motorola's GSM multiband handoff feature. The feature allows service providers to add GSM 1,800 cells through performing blind handoffs to GSM 1,800 cells. Spectrum-Analyzer Enhancements
Tektronix features enhancements for its FSE spectrum-analyzer family, as well as improvements for the FSIQ spectrum-analyzer models. The enhancements give service providers emerging 3G protocols such as W-CDMA and cdma2000. The enhancements to the FSE family increase the instruments' dynamic range to 75dB, making them capable of meeting ACPR measurement requirements for W-CDMA. In addition, the FSE family is available with an optional built-in Windows NT controller. The FSIQ models are enhanced with improved phase noise and linearity specifications. Option B13 preserves the dynamic range needed for accurate RF measurements on 3G base-station transmitters. The FSE family includes models ranging to 40GHz, and the FSIQ series includes models to 26.5GHz.

Remote Monitoring
Cable AML's RMU-002 programmable remote-monitoring unit is designed to provide equipment-status information for the company's transmitters, repeaters, receivers and systems. The unit enables providers to monitor the status of up to 64 user-selected and user-defined analog inputs. Two inputs are reserved for internal system monitoring, while the remaining 62 inputs are monitored for fault conditions against programmable thresholds. Control functions are accessed via the front panel, an RS-232 connection, the Internet via Web browser or through SNMP protocol. 2-Way Communications
Com-Net Ericsson Critical Radio Systems has announced a joint agreement with Catalyst Communications Technologies to market Network Access Radio, which merges voice-over-IP technology with 2-way radio communications for use over a LAN or WAN, reducing costs and increasing productivity. The solution eliminates the need for dedicated phone lines and a proprietary switch for radio connectivity, and can serve as a backup system for the dispatch console. The product also offers a backup to the circuits between the console and the repeaters by providing an alternate path for delivery of voice messages.

Wireless-Broadband Solution
ADC's Axity Broadband Wireless Access System provides 2-way delivery of communications services over MMDS wireless spectrum. It enables providers to deliver voice and high-speed data services to homes and businesses. Included are base-station transmitters and receivers, wireless modems for the headend and the desktop, and an element-management system. The system operates on the MDS (1.2GHz),WCS (2.3GHz) and MMDS (2.5GHz) spectrum, and delivers up to 27Mb/s in each 6MHz channel in the downstream. The service provider can tailor the bandwidth in the upstream path based on customer demand.

The system offers full redundancy and modularity, DOCSIS+ architecture, and browser-based element management. From a single MMDS base stations, providers can service a 20- to 30-mile radius.
